Utah Patent of the Month – October 2021

While constructing a building, workers are often required to work at heights, on roofs, on scaffolds, and on perilous structures. While the workers are required to complete regulated training, such as working at heights training, the safety equipment used is just as important for their safety. The safety equipment usually includes tethers to hold the worker to the roof. These tethers usually limit the worker’s mobility, slowing down the process and limiting the worker.

Agra Tech, LLC has designed an alternative safety anchor that minimizes assembly and impact on the worker’s mobility. Their safety anchor has a mounting plate which mounts on a vertical portion of the building being constructed. A vertical support member is coupled to this mounting plate and extends upwards. A pair of these mounting plates with extensions are connected by a cable. The worker is then tethered to this cable. The tether can move along the cable between the two mounts. This makes them capable of traversing a wider range of the building while remaining safe. If the building is particularly wide, more safety anchors can be placed with more cable length for the worker to utilize.  The worker is no longer tethered to a single location or needs to move the carabiner tether every time they venture further.
