Virginia Patent of the Month – May 2022

Cyber threat intelligence is a crucial tool for organizations as security threats are growing in prevalence and strength. When developing these intelligence tools, the data used to inform defense methods is pulled from red team attackers (i.e. those trying to improve the system by executing attack sessions) and blue team defenders (i.e. those executing defense actions in response). Purple teams then process this data to improve future attack and defense mechanisms. Threatology, Inc. has improved this analytical process to improve cybersecurity defense capabilities.

Their cyber threat intelligence platform takes in cyberattack data and cyber defense data. It processes and identifies the first point in time when the cyberattack is executed and a second point when the defense action is initiated. These two points are then compared to determine how much of a time lapse occurs before defense is enacted. Moreso, the data can be processed to identify different indicators of attack which can then inform more rapid response times.

Threatology’s technology provides a collaborative platform for security teams. Through complex analytics, any company can better understand and stay ahead of threats.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
