Washington Patent of the Month – June 2025
Know Labs Inc. has developed a biometric system that could change how we access vehicles. U.S. Patent No. 12318203, titled ‘Vehicle interface systems and methods for analyte-based access control’, covers a new way to verify a user’s identity through internal body chemistry.
Analyte-Based Access Control
The system uses a sensor to detect a person’s unique analytes-chemical markers in their blood or breath. These biological signatures can confirm identity before unlocking or starting a vehicle. Unlike traditional keys or even facial recognition, this approach offers a more secure, internal method of access.
No Passwords or Keys Required
The technology links a person’s specific analyte profile with their access rights. When someone tries to enter or operate the vehicle, a real-time scan checks for a match. If it matches a registered user, the system grants access. If not, access is denied automatically.
Next-Level Security for Cars
This invention could enhance anti-theft systems and simplify car sharing. It may also reduce reliance on devices or passwords, both of which can be lost, stolen, or hacked. By using an individual’s biology, the method makes access more personal-and potentially more secure.
Potential Beyond Vehicles
Although designed for cars, the system could be adapted to homes, secure buildings, or even payment systems. It’s part of a broader trend toward contactless, biometrically-driven security tools that blend convenience with high-level protection.
