The State Public Water System Supervision Grant

The Public Water System Supervision (PWSS) Grant Program provides funds to assist states, territories, and tribes to cary out Public Water System Supervision programs. Primary Enforcement Responsibility for the Public Water System Supervision Program are eligible to receive grants, they are the designated state agencies in:

  • 50 states
  • District of Columbia
  • Commonwealth of Puerto Rico
  • Northern Mariana Islands
  • Virginia Islands
  • Guam
  • American Samoa
  • Indian tribes treated as a state

Funds may be used for development and implementation of PWSS programs adequate for enforcing SDWA requirements that ensure National Primary Drinking Water Regulations are in compliance. Qualifying projects include:

  • Developing and maintaining of

– Drinking water regulations
– An inventory of public water systems throughout the state
– A database to hold compliance information
– Conducting sanitary surveys
– Reviewing public water system plans and specifications
– Providing technical assistance
– Carrying out a program
– Certifying laboratories that can perform drinking water analysis
– Carrying out an enforcement program
