FAB Biopharma Inc. has filed a new patent for an RNA-based therapy aimed at treating autoimmune diseases. U.S. Patent Application No. 20250197475, titled ‘Compositions and methods for treatment of sjögren’s syndrome and/or systemic lupus erythematosus’, outlines a method to regulate immune function with improved precision.
RNA modulation targets inflammation
The invention uses RNA molecules to adjust the expression of the ICOS protein, a critical factor in immune cell activity. This modulation aims to reduce the overactive immune responses seen in Sjögren’s syndrome and lupus.
Unlike broad-spectrum immunosuppressants, this targeted approach could lower the risk of side effects by preserving overall immune function.
Precise delivery with lipid nanoparticles
The patent also describes a lipid nanoparticle system that delivers the RNA directly to immune cells. This targeted delivery increases the therapy’s effectiveness and limits exposure to non-target tissues.
