West Virginia Patent of the Month – May 2021
When using cryogenic liquids in the gas sample conditioning field, heat is generated in the vaporizer and can travel up-stream. This heat transfer can cause pre-vaporization of the sample which results in reduced accuracy of the sample analysis. As such, Mustang Sampling has designed a system capable of mitigating this heat transfer and enhancing sampling accuracy.
Mustang Sampling developed a unique Process Thermal Isolator structure made from materials that offer resistance to high pressures and thermal stresses – including cryogenic temperatures. They used polymeric materials like PETE (polyethylene terephthalate) or PEEK – both of which are burst-resistant and thermally stable. In addition to the material type, they introduced threaded compression end caps which help to better secure the isolator to a liquid sample line. Between these two components, their design creates a heated enclosure. The vaporizer unit is then controlled with flow control valves and heat and pressure regulators. Finally, an analyzer output line exits the heated enclosure. This combination of characteristics prevents the up-stream migration of heat and doesn’t allow for pre-vaporized sample contamination.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
