Wyoming Patent of the Month – October 2021

Secommix, LLC has designed a secure dynamic address resolution and communication protocol that connects devices together over any available network. Other versions of these protocols do exist with Domain Name System (DNS) being most notable. DNS functions similarly to a telephone book, associating a name to an IP address. However, people’s most notable concerns with DNS systems are the security concerns. DNS can be susceptible to hijackings. Secommix’s protocol cuts out the third party DNS and mail exchange systems to enhance security.

This communication protocol pairs a set of nodes in a format called a ‘handshake’. The initial pairing requires the initial entry of identifiers on each of the two devices. An authentication scheme then identifies between the paired nodes using unique keys, passcodes, or certificates. From here, a dynamic DNS record is created on the first node with the address of the second node and vice versa. Once this authentication scheme is complete it can be used to authenticate communications going forward. When a message is transferred from device to the other, the addresses are verified. If authentication fails, or the recipient node is not reachable, it will test all previous associated addresses. This limits spam messages. Once successfully authenticated, the message is sent. This protocol better protects senders and recipients from spam or hijacking and works on any network.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
