The purpose of the Institute of Education Sciences (IES): Education Research: Low-Cost, Short-Duration Evaluation of Special Education Interventions program is support education interventions that will drastically improve student performance and education outcomes without using a large budget. Grant awards typically run for a two year period. These efforts require rigorous evaluations that use randomized controlled trials or regression discontinuity designs.

This program provides Discretionary grants of $1,000,000. Priority is given to the lowest-cost, shortest-duration programs with the maximum impact evaluating education. The maximum award is typically $250,000 for up to 24 months; any proposal requesting more than $250,000 will not be considered for funding. The application packet can be downloaded from the website.
