The Young Farmer Grant is available to farmers between the ages of 18 and 46 to assist in the growth and support of agriculture in Texas keeping produce local to Texas. These grants are available twice a year. Awards range between $5,000 and $10,000 with a dollar-for-dollar matching requirement. Funds are released on a reimbursement basis and may not be used for capital purchases.

The grant recipient is fully responsible for the management of the project and ensuring all proper statutes, regulations, and grant terms are met. The grantee is also responsible for ensuring:

  • Funds are used for project approved activities.
  • Funds are not used in violation of any statutes.
  • Reports are completed and submitted in a timely manner.

Failure to meet the requirements of the grant terms may result in a requirement to reimburse received grant funds and withholding of future funds. Funds may be used for:

  • Personnel Expenses
  • Small Equipment Expenses
  • Land
  • Animals
  • Supplies/General Purchases of less than $5,000
