The Water and Waste Disposal Technical Assistance and Training Grants are available to assist low-income communities with application for USDA Rural Development Water and Waste Disposal direct loan/grant and loan guarantee programs planning and development. Eligible participants include state and local governments, nonprofit organizations, and federally recognized tribes i located in eligible areas. Eligible areas include:
- Rural areas with 10,000 people or less
- Federally recognized tribal lands i
- Colonias i
- Areas with a medium household income below the local poverty line
Funds may only be used to pay for the development and completion of an application to for USDA Rural Development Water and Waste Disposal direct loan/grant and loan guarantee programs. Grants terms are to:
- Only fund incomplete work
- Subtract funds from awarded USDA grants
- Are not required to be repaid if USDA Direct loan or loan/grant combination is not successful
- Awarded according to needs
- Collaborations are encouraged
Awards cannot exceed $30,000 or 75% of the pre-developed planning cost; at least 25% of the project funds are required to be matched by the applicant or third party source. To get started eligible participants should submit an application to the local RD office using the forms and specifications found online.
