Connecticut Patent of the Month – December 2021

Fiber Mountain, Inc. has dedicated itself to innovating the physical layer of data center networks. Through novel sensor technology, software, fiber optic cables and patch panels improves the data center security, uptime, and performance. Recently, they have designed a system which increases the fiber port density in data center applications.

The physical size of the transceiver often limits the number of connectors that can be installed on the network device. With Fiber Mountain’s systems, the data center network device architecture is modified to increase port density. This modified architecture combines low and high density ports to make the use of data center network device panel space more effective without needing replacement devices, connectors, or transceivers. This means the solution is efficient and cost effective.

Their design separates the transceivers from the panel connectors and increases the density of the optical interface circuitry. Through a combination of ports, dynamic mixing speeds of fiber connections within high density fiber connectors can be achieved on a per fiber basis.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
