Whether you climb trees for fun or climb trees for work you have probably used some type of knee ascender. These tools allow the climber to ascend using Single Rope Technique (SRT) using both legs in a stair-climbing motion. One key limitation in most traditional ascenders is the limited range of motion afforded by the rope. Since every climber is different, every stride is different and a limited range of motion means limited usability.
Climbing Innovation LLC is focused on developing new tools that make climbing trees more efficient and body friendly for everyone. They have spent years designing and developing ascenders that allow you to climb safely and for a long time.
The company has recently patented their self advancing and adjustable knee ascender. By adjusting the length of bungee cord available, the user has more control over range of motion and their length of stride. Designed to be adjustable without needing tools, the ascender uses a small pouch which stores a length of retractable bungee cord. To lengthen your stride, you simply pull the bungee cord out of the housing and lock it in place. Similarly, to shorten your stride, you retract the excess bungee cord back into the pouch and lock it in place. The footholds are designed with a small elastic that can be pulled and adjusted to match the size of the foothold to the user’s boot size. Their ascender uses two straps – one with constant tension and the other with constant compression. This combination improves the efficiency and reduces the load applied to your muscles when climbing by balancing out the upward and downward forces.
