Kentucky Patent of the Month – February 2022
A replacement throttle body system can be used to replace a carburetor to produce better electronic fuel injection performance. This replacement is great for higher performance engines. Most of these designs are fully mechanical or hydraulic and, unfortunately, lose performance over time. Holley Performance Products, Inc. has designed an electronic fuel injection throttle body system that has sustained performance over time while still improving fuel injection performance.
Holly Performance has been driving the fuel-system design industry for over a century with innovative products and equipment. Their design for an electric throttle body system can be integrated into nearly any existing engine. This throttle body system can be mounted to the engine so that the manifold receives air through a filter and fuel from a fuel tank. The air and fuel are mixed to cause an ignition. It’s designed with a series of stacked injectors, each of which have wired connectors running to the electronic control unit. This unit then controls the throttle body. This includes controlling or powering the IAC motor, throttle positioning, and a handful of sensors.
The way this has been designed allows the system to be scaled up by increasing the number of stacked fuel injectors based on the engine’s performance requirements. By improving the control of the system, it’s consistency is also improved. This ultimately extends its working life.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify).
