Nevada Patent of the Month – August 2021

The police and law enforcement use guns and firearms when needed – but that level of force is not always warranted. Hand-to-hand combat is often too dangerous for the individuals. Ofcourse, there are options such as tasers and other electrical muscle disruptors, there are debates about if these are more dangerous than previously believed. As such, Wrap Technologies, Inc. has developed another alternative, non-lethal solution.

This solution uses an entangling projectile device to subdue the perp and prevent them from evading arrest. The device launches an entangling projectile which is a set of pellets tethered together. When shot at the perp, the entanglement wraps around the legs – or torso – a couple of times and the pellets wrap around each other to temporarily tie the wrap closed. The perp’s legs are bound together and they can no longer run away. The device can be deployed from 6 to 30 feet away with relative accuracy. Through developing these non-lethal solutions, Wrap Technologies is working on de-escalating police interactions and improving protection methods.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
