New Hampshire Patent of the Month – January 2023

The field of immunotherapy is constantly evolving as the scientific body makes new discoveries. ImmuNext Inc. is at the forefront of this research, developing novel immunotherapies for autoimmune disease and cancer. Their focus on the Immune checkpoint regulator (NCR) pathways has led to the development of innovative treatments for human immune-related diseases.

The NCR pathway is a complex network of immune regulators, and ImmuNext has been particularly interested in a ligand called VISTA. This molecule has a profound effect on T cell suppression, and blocking it has been shown to enhance immune responses against cancer. In ImmunNext’s recent patent, they have identified a set of anti-human VISTA antibodies which can bind to human VISTA and promote or mimic its effects on immunity. The invention aims to provide a treatment for conditions where suppression of immunity, especially T cell immunity, is desired, including for transplant recipients and in the treatment of cancer and various infectious conditions.

This approach has the potential to change the way we treat autoimmune diseases and cancer, offering new hope to those in need. The development of anti-VISTA entered into a clinical stage program in 2020, where research and testing has since continued.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify).
