Counterfeit items have long been a problem for any designer apparel – from bags to clothes to shoes. This is especially commonplace for any item that is a limited release design. In order to limit customers from unknowingly purchasing counterfeit products, some companies have implemented providence tracking solutions, or alternative methods to authenticate the product. Entrupy, Inc. has developed the world’s first – and only – on-demand authentication solution for high-value goods.
They have developed an authentication engine that determines the authenticity of suspicious items. To check the authenticity of a product, you upload images of said product, or simply take pictures using the integrated camera feature. These images are different angles of the product. The engine stores all images in their databases for future use and learning.
The engine identifies different regions of interest within these images, measuring the size and distance of these regions of interest. It also assesses coloration and texture qualities. It then compares these details to a database where information on the authentic product is stored. The engine then determines if the product is authentic, or the probability of being counterfeit. Regardless of the outcome, the images are stored in the database to train the algorithm as it grows. The engine is AI-powered, using machine learning to expand their accuracy. Between machine learning and computer vision, their proprietary database with millions of images of authentic and counterfeit products can accurately identify the state of a product.
