Oklahoma Patent of the Month – May 2021
Car speakers and sound systems receive sound sources from the radio, CD player, and aux cord – or atleast most of them do. They usually have a speaker system set up in the front and back of the vehicle, so that you can adjust settings like the fade and crossover. You can get your system professionally tuned to have the best audio system but this is not an achievable expense for most people. You could tune yourself, but are unlikely to achieve the sound quality you want. Stillwater Designs and Audio, Inc. has designed a system which can automate the tuning process, regardless of the speaker type.
Their Auto Setup Program (ASP) can be implemented in the sound system for fine tuning and automated adjustments. The ASP uses an external microphone to gauge what tuning is needed. The microphone is placed at the main listener’s position and the distance between this position and all speakers is calculated. A digital signal processor (DSP) time delay is introduced to ensure the sound from each speaker reaches the listener at the same time. Further analyses are run, using pink noise to influence attenuation, balance, and crossover. The ASP can be run as many times as desired, ensuring your sound quality is always on point.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify).
