Vermont Patent of the Month – September 2021

Circularly polarized antennas use a radio wave that rotates as the signal propagates. They are known to be used in data transfer, wifi, and drone vehicles by limiting the effect of multipath interference. They are great for better signal clarity and higher data transfer rates with fewer errors. Video Aerial Systems, LLC has developed a quick-change circularly polarized antenna fitment. This design can be used for Right-Hand Circularly Polarized antenna systems.

They use a curved conductor system for a quick-change antenna fitment. Each of these elements are positioned equidistant from the central feed and curved to fit inside the round cover. These are also embedded in a printed circuit board (PCB) along with conductive elements (eg. copper, silver, gold etc). These elements are bent or curved as needed to provide an optimal conductive path. The space and length is also based on the desired performance of the quick-change circularly polarized antenna. Video Aerial Systems has been improving these systems for a long time. In fact, they were the first to solve the Multipath issues experienced UAS operators. They had incorporated Circular Polarization and all but eliminated Multipathing. Now they continue to improve and enhance these systems, always working towards perfection.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
