West Virginia Patent of the Month – January 2021

Whether or not we know someone who’s had a stroke, we know the effects can be devastating, leading to either permanent disability or even death. Strokes are the second-leading cause of death and are the third-leading cause of disability, globally. While there have been efforts to minimize cerebral damage caused by strokes, the intervention window for different types of strokes are very small, ranging from only four-and-a-half to six hours from onset. In addition, previous studies into current treatments find that patients are rarely eligible for them. In an effort to promote patient care and minimize the damaging effects that are caused by strokes, Tricerapro Holding, LLC has developed a new preventative medical intervention.

Tricerapro Holding’s intervention utilizes daily oral dietary supplements to individuals who are at risk of having a stroke. The neuroprotective supplements are not a primary form of therapy, but are preventative, protective, and can extend the post-stroke treatment window. They can be in pill, liquid, or capsule form and contain a mixture of Phosphocreatine (PCr), Magnesium Gluconate (MgG) and .beta.-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) in a 2:1:2 ratio. These chemical agents work together to protect the brain, the blood vessels, and the blood-brain barrier after a stroke by acting as a multidimensional neuroprotective system. The mixture is well tolerated, easy to administer, and is also stable at room temperature, meaning there are no special storage requirements.

Are you developing a new system? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
