West Virginia Patent of the Month – November 2021

Mustang Sampling, LLC is the innovator of Analytically Accurate® solutions within sample conditioning systems. They develop and implement solutions for the natural gas industry including for natural gas liquids (NGL), renewable natural gas (RNG), and liquefied natural gas (LNG). One of their recent developments is an adjustable multi stage pressure reducing regulator.

NGLs are combustible, gaseous mixtures of hydrocarbon compounds which are produced by fracking. Often, the natural gas products are vaporized for transport or application. Samples are also taken and pressurized when moved into a gas analyzer for testing. The existing methods for regulating pressure are typically insufficient and need complex and expensive maintenance. Mustang Sampling’s regulator allows for stepped depressurization of the vapor sample to move past these limitations.

Their pressure regulating device is made of a corrosion-resistant super alloy like stainless-steel. The system directs a vapor gas sample to the first-stage pressure regulating valve which reduces the pressure of the vapor gas sample. It is then directed to adjacent valves for additional pressure reduction along the way. The final-stage pressure regulating valve brings the sample to an analyzer safe pressure and then directs it into the analyzer.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
