Wisconsin Patent of the Month – April 2022

Non Typical, Inc. (Cuddeback) have been leaders in digital scouting cameras for decades. In fact, they’ve been making trail cameras nearly twice as long as their competitors. Trail cameras are crucial for tracking animals and movement on a trail or hunting ground. Since animals are fast, the camera needs to be even faster.

Of course, trail cameras are not only used for hunting. Biologists love to use them to track animals in their research zone. These might be motion activated or based on intervals, but either way the camera needs to be fast and produce a clear image.

Cuddeback has recently patented a trail camera capable of high quality images both at interval and motion triggered instances. They utilize an infrared motion sensor to trigger the camera. Similarly, a light sensor can detect the surrounding light levels. A timer can be used to set an interval for completely automated image capture. In either case, the timer or motion sensor can trigger an image capture.

Once triggered (either by the motion sensor or by a timer) the camera is set to capture one or multiple images. Cuddeback’s camera has achieved a ¼ second trigger speed and a recovery time which is just as fast. Since the camera can be remotely controlled, the number of images to be captured can be easily adjusted.

With their high resolution imaging (i.e. 20 megapixels) and the rapid image taking, the resultant photos are high quality and clear enough for any purpose.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify).
