Arkansas Patent of the Month – October 2022

A good barbeque is a summer tradition, from cookouts to relaxing evenings in. And a good cookout requires two key things: a good cook and a good grill. Portable Kitchens, Inc. (PK) have been building the latter since 1952. Their recently patented PK charcoal grill and smoker combines grilling and smoking into a single system so there is no need to choose between functions.

Their design uses a duct system with “volcanoes” on the inside of the lower grill chamber which match holes in the tubes fitted to the bottom of the chamber. With this set up, simple turning of the tubes provides precise venting and temperature control during cooking. Covers positioned over the volcanoes prevent ash, soot, and grease from falling into the volcanoes.

Design considerations like the aluminum construction allows the grill to conduct heat more efficiently which means a smoother distribution of heat around the capsule without the need for constant rotation of the food. Between the efficiency of the aluminum construction and the four-way venting system, the grill has optimal temperature control for any cooking style.
