The circadian rhythm is an internal process that regulates our sleep-wake cycle. Recent research has been highlighting the importance of a well maintained circadian rhythm on various aspects of our lives. For instance, high circadian stimulation can lead to good sleep patterns, boosted moods, feeling alert, and combating seasonal affective depression. However, a regularly disrupted rhythm has been associated with melatonin suppression, fatigue, reduced sleep, and even linked to heart disease and obesity.
Different wavelengths of light have different impacts on the rhythm. Blue-light is known to result in a “wake-up” effect and can make it difficult to sleep. Most LED based products are based on a blue-primary phosphor-converted white-emitting LED. For instance, using your phone before bed results in intake of blue-light and disrupts your circadian rhythm. Soraa, Inc. has developed a lightbulb designed to meet the needs of your circadian rhythm.
The light bulb is able to emulate a circadian light cycle, with high blue content in the morning and midday and reduced levels in the evenings. The light bulb uses LEDs with multiple emission sources to provide a wide range of light wavelengths. The variation in light matches a natural rhythm, allowing us to get the benefits of stimulating our circadian rhythm without overdoing it. This change in light is achieved while maintaining a color rendering index above 80 and maintaining a set correlated color temperature for ideal optics and illumination.
