California Patent of the Month – March 2024

Dreamland Baby Co – creators of doctor-approved weighted sleep solutions – is bringing greater comfort and better sleep to babies with a safe and patented technology. The company’s design for a wearable weight blanket introduces a new solution for parents seeking to provide comfort and relaxation for their infants. This invention challenges the concept of traditional swaddling methods and standard infant blankets by incorporating gentle weight distribution across the entire front panel of the garment.

Colic, a common concern among parents, often leaves infants fussy and restless. Traditional methods like the “colic carry” or swaddling aim to provide comfort, but they have limitations and potential safety risks. Dreamland Baby recognized this gap and developed a wearable blanket that combines the soothing benefits of swaddling with the therapeutic effects of weighted blankets.

The wearable weighted blanket features a thoughtful design with a front panel comprising multiple weighted subpanels arranged in a checkerboard or diamond configuration. Each subpanel contains a pouch holding weighted materials such as glass beads or polymeric gel, ensuring balanced pressure distribution across the infant’s body.

Unlike conventional swaddles, this innovative garment offers adjustable weight distribution to cater to individual needs. By incorporating a hook and loop fastening system, parents can customize the level of pressure in different areas of the blanket, providing tailored comfort for their little ones.

Furthermore, the wearable blanket is crafted with a multi-layer construction, including a breathable layer for optimal comfort and safety. The incorporation of arm openings and replaceable detachable wings adds versatility and convenience for parents, allowing for ease of use and customization.

Research has shown the potential benefits of weighted blankets in promoting relaxation and improving sleep quality for individuals of all ages. By introducing this concept to infant care, Dreamland Baby aims to provide parents with a safe and effective tool for soothing their babies.
