Colorado Patent of the Month – December 2022

Panamorph, Inc. have been exceeding commercial cinema quality standards through the use of internal anamorphic modes in today’s 4K projectors. Their methods add two million more pixels of clarity and brightness.Panamorph lenses are the most recognized and most recommended anamorphic conversion lenses used in close to 10,000 of the highest end home theaters throughout the world.

Despite reaching global acclaim, the company has not been deterred from innovation. In fact, their R&D efforts are near endless. These efforts have led to a recently granted patent for their Near-Eye Display system.

This invention acts as a core technology in support of wearable displays. These development efforts have been in the DNA of Panamorph since the early 1990s, showing just how dedicated they are. Panamorph is now applying these patented and patent-pending technologies to the development of next generation optical displays in collaboration with license or acquisition partners for ultimate product integration.

Their Near-Eye Display system uses Modulated SubPupils to effectively project light of a virtual image directly to the eye. The subpupil modulator within the aperture works in cooperation with the optical subsystem to generate subpupils within the exit pupil – which is where the virtual image is displayed. Leveraging this technology for eye pupil tracking allows the system to turn off light missing the eye pupil center and dramatically increases edge-to-edge image clarity and contrast. It also reduces power usage and heat by nearly 100%, increasing depth of focus for decreased vergence accommodation conflict.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
