Connecticut Patent of the Month – December 2023

SpringWorks Therapeutics Inc., a commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company, has been granted a patent for their non-linear dosing of mirdametinib – a new treatment for tumors and cancers. Founded in 2017, SpringWorks has a diversified targeted oncology pipeline spanning solid tumors and hematological cancers, including clinical trials in rare tumor types and highly prevalent, genetically defined cancers.

Mirdametinib is an allosteric, small molecule targeting mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase (MEK). The non-linear dosage tailors the amount of medication to the individual patient based on factors like size, sex, and age. Treatment is further modified based on if the patient is treating tumors with operational procedures or not.

Mirdametinib inhibits MEK and operates as a monotherapy treatment for neurofibromatosis type 1-associated plexiform neurofibromas (NF1-PN) and low-grade glioma (LGG), and as a combination therapy for the treatment of several subsets of biomarker-defined metastatic solid tumors.

SpringWorks Therapeutics is on the cutting edge of cancer research, and this new method offers a roadmap for more effective and personalized cancer treatments. It’s not just about fighting cancer; it’s about doing it in a way that considers each person’s unique situation.
