Florida Patent of the Month – March 2022

Pürlin, LLC is committed to creating Zero Laundry Zero Waste products to protect the guest and save the environment.

Most reusable linens are made of bleached cotton or virgin cotton and polyester blends. Unfortunately, cotton is one of the most resource intensive agricultural crops requiring high volumes of water, pesticides, and herbicides to reliably grow. Part of Pürlin’s endeavors intends to find a solution which can reduce the footprint associated with linens, improving any hotel’s LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating.

Pürlin has developed a method for forming a non-woven, recyclable fabric made solely of polyester. These fabrics are formed using a combination of high melt polyester fibers and low melt polyester binders. These fibers are obtained from melted down used fabric for a full recycle and increased lifespan of the material. The first fibers are hydroentangled to create a web. The second fibers are applied as a binding topical treatment. Depending on the qualities of this coating, the final fabric can be hydrophilic or cooling for a better user experience.

By creating linens out of used fabric, Pürlin has developed a closed-loop recycling system which can benefit both hotels and healthcare industries. These industries constantly require a set of clean linens for every new guest or patient. Their closed-loop system provides clean linens while protecting the environment.
