Georgia Patent of the Month – November 2021

Denim is one of the most popular materials for clothing due to its comfort in shape and durability. But if you’ve ever worn non-stretch denim then you know it has its own limitations including poor drying, lack of stretch, and poor thermal conductivity. Adding in spandex softens the fabric and gives it some stretch. This has done nothing to improve its drying time or how poorly they manage heat. Brrr!, Inc. has designed a method to cool the yarns and fabrics used in denim, making them even more comfortable than before.

Brrr! is a textile company focused on revolutionizing these everyday fabrics. Their designs harness the power of natural cooling minerals and active wicking and drying tech. Recently, they have worked with fibers to enhance denim fabrics. Their design uses a cooling polymer composition which is combined with the fabric as it is spun together. The result is a single-covered yarn with a cooling sheath. The core is made of polyester, surrounded by this polyamide sheath. This composite material cools the fabric and offers wicking properties to speed up drying times.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify).
