Illinois Patent of the Month – May 2023

eMeasurematics, Inc. has developed a revolutionary drone-based inventory management system that could transform the way warehouses track inventory. The system features a central management server that controls a staff of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) – or drones – to detect discrepancies in inventory and update the inventory accordingly. The system is also capable of identifying an inventory location and the inventory of items present at that location based on captured images.

One of the most innovative features of the eMeasurematics system is its ability to measure the height or volume changes of inventory at each location in the warehouse. By segmenting captured images based on locations, the system can accurately determine the change in inventory and update the inventory accordingly. This feature can significantly reduce the time required for inventory management, allowing warehouse operators to focus on more critical tasks.

The eMeasurematics system is also equipped with a drone dock that features a physical and electrical coupling for the drones, where the drones can dock and charge. This feature ensures that the drones are always charged and ready to fly, reducing the downtime required for charging.

The system’s central management server is also capable of determining the last known location of a vehicle and operating the UAV in a second predetermined route to that location. The UAV can then operate from the last known location in the expected route of the vehicle, docking onto the vehicle in response to detecting it, and providing missing functionality to the vehicle console, such as GPS signals for route guidance, communication capabilities, and image capturing functionality.

eMeasurematics’ drone-based inventory management system is a game-changer in the field of warehouse management. Its ability to accurately measure the height or volume changes of inventory, identify inventory locations and the inventory of items present at those locations, and provide missing functionality to vehicles are just a few of the system’s features that could revolutionize the industry. eMeasurematics was established in 2000 and has grown to be an important and valuable partner to many large fully integrated Metal and Steel Plants across India, North America, EU, Middle East and Asia.
