Indiana Patent of the Month – February 2022

Exercising improves our health, makes us stronger, and brings more energy into our lives. As you get more and more into the fitness world, you might start using bars – from squat rack bars to pull up bars. If a bar is slick or simply smoother than you’re used to, you might have some grip issues. Gymnasts, rock climbers, and lifters have all been known to use chalk to help improve this grip. Chalk can be a nuisance though, getting a dusty layer all over clothes and everything in the area. The sweat combined with the chalk can also be very difficult to clean up.

Bear Komplex understood this nuisance and decided it was time for something different. They designed a set of athletic hand grips that remove the need for chalk but maintain that improvement on the grip. The design involves a wrist strap and a material that covers the palm for protection. The wrist strap can be secured with a buckle which is positioned away from the wrist to ensure it prevents any harm. The palm pad has cutouts for the fingers. By securing the hand grip the wrist and the fingers, the palm pad can smoothly morph to the shape of the hand as it curls around the bar.

The grip is made of a lightweight carbon fiber material or leather which each provide the required degree of stretch and durability. The design is stitched in a way to achieve strength so that it won’t come apart during a lift, without causing it to dig into your skin. Improving your hand grip lets you lift with confidence.
