Iowa Patent of the Month – August 2021

Soil sampling is a key testing practice in agriculture and various scientific research. It provides insight to the relative nutrient status and helps aid in informing the direct application of fertilizer to the field. Soil Analytics, LLC have developed a novel soil sampler assembly that meets all regulatory requirements outlined by national and university soil testers.

The assembly has a utility vehicle and a soil sampler module which brings a soil sample into the cab of the vehicle. A sampler arm is configured to take soil samples of varying sizes, using a corer to grab a reasonable core length of soil and securing it within the arm. The arm has a drill and hydraulically powered auger to ensure the core can be taken, even from tough ground. The sample is conveyed to the cab where it can be automatically deposited into a sample collection bag. This vehicle reduces the manual labor involved in soil sampling, grabbing uniform samples rapidly and effectively.
