Iowa Patent of the Month – February 2023
As an animal owner, you know how important it is to monitor your furry friends’ health status. However, this can be a daunting task, especially when you have a mobile and active animal that you cannot constantly monitor. Fortunately, a new invention by VetMeasure Inc has solved this problem with the MeasureON! harness and VetMeasure app.
The MeasureON! is a wearable monitoring device that attaches to the animal and includes a controller and sensors. The sensors are positioned on the animal to measure body temperature, pulse/heart rate, ECG, respiratory rate, and activity level. The system also monitors the temperature and humidity levels in the immediate vicinity of the animal. The controller takes measurements at intervals and wirelessly transfers data to the VetMeasure app, running on a nearby mobile device or remote server.
One of the most significant advantages of the MeasureON! is that it eliminates the need for a person to be present continuously to monitor an animal’s health status. The harness holds the sensors in place, ensuring the health status of the animal is monitored without interruption. Furthermore, it is not limited to a specific animal species and can be used on humans as well.
Another advantage of the VetMeasure’s harness is its ability to detect animal activity and position changes, which can affect the accuracy of the measurements taken. The system warns the user when measurements are affected, thus avoiding false alarms on the animal’s health status.
The system’s design also recognizes that environmental conditions of the animal may affect the accuracy of the measurements. For example, the use of a warming blanket during surgery may directly affect temperature measurements taken from the animal. The system provides a warning when the environmental conditions affect the measurements.
The MeasureON! harness helps prevent heat stroke and heat stress in animals by providing real-time analysis of their body temperature and environmental conditions. The individual health profile generated by the system aids veterinarians, veterinary technicians, animal owners, livestock producers, animal caretakers, animal trainers, and handlers in diagnosis and treatment for health-related concerns. It is perfect for monitoring high-risk patients during and after surgical procedures or for continuous at-home monitoring.
VetMeasure® is an animal health technology company saving the lives of dogs. Animal health is VetMeasure’s number one priority, that’s why MeasureON! gives a complete animal health and well-being profile that can be shared between veterinarians and animal owners.
