Kansas Patent of the Month – July 2021
Exposure to near-infrared radiation has been proven to provide some health benefits to humans from increased blood circulation to pain relief. This radiation can also activate certain photo-reactive medications for use in medical procedures. Similar benefits can be found with oxygen therapy. The issue with both of these treatment options lies in the large and complex equipment needed to deliver them. Sunlighten, Inc. has designed a simple and easily stored chamber that can deliver both oxygen and near-infrared therapy.
This personal therapy chamber is constructed with an upper and lower cabin, each with a half-cylinder shape. When using it, the occupant sits or lies in the chamber from the neck down. Within each chamber, multiple near-infrared emitting elements – including LEDs – are set in the walls, aimed at the occupants body. The chamber is also equipped with an oxygen supply apparatus to expose the user to a hyper-oxygenated environment. The two therapies can be run individually or simultaneously, depending on what the patient needs. The environment created by combining hyperbaric oxygen therapy and near-infrared radiation therapy lends health and wellness benefits at a faster rate than individual therapy.
