Maine Patent of the Month – January 2021

Have you ever ordered pictures at a kiosk and then stood waiting while the machine very slowly printed your pictures, only to find the print quality is poor? Part of that machine is a media transport mechanism. This helps, you guessed it, transport the media. But sometimes the mechanism becomes dirty from so many hands touching the media that goes into it. Dirt and contaminants can build up in the mechanism and stop it from working properly. KICTeam, Inc. wanted to stop malfunctions such as these, so they developed a system for cleaning media transport mechanisms.

KICTeam’s cleaning system consists of a card that contains a solution, so it cleans the machine as it moves through it. The card is made to fit the media transport system and has holes and scrapers to clean the machines’ various features and positions (belts, flaps, rollers, etc.). This card can also be inserted into the currency port to clean that as well. As it moves through the media transport system, the solution rubs off onto the mechanisms to cleanse the machine of any contaminants, while the holes and scrapers take away any buildup that has formed over time.

Are you developing a new process? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify).
