Minnesota Patent of the Month – March 2023
Living Greens Farm, Inc. is set on developing the technology needed to bring indoor-grown, clean, and sustainable veggies to everyone’s table. Their newly patented system achieves year-round growth while using 95% less water, 95% less shipping, and 98% less land.
This patent comes after ten years of intensive research. Leveraging aeroponics technology, the grow system makes it possible to use less land and water, all while reducing the carbon footprint and eliminating the need for harmful chemicals like pesticides and herbicides.
The plant support structure is the backbone of this vertical growing system, and it is built to last. It features a foot that elevates the structure from the floor surface, a vertical frame, and intermediate rails that provide support for the plants. A cap sits atop the first and second board frames to protect the plants from external elements, while the light support provides the necessary light for photosynthesis to occur. The light system moves upward and downward with respect to the board frame, ensuring that all parts of the plant receive equal amounts of light.
The nutrient delivery system is positioned within the interior of the plant support structure, ensuring that the plants receive all the nutrients they need to grow. In addition, an air conduit is engaged with the plant support structure, allowing for optimal air circulation and temperature control. The air conduit is in fluid communication with an HVAC system, which means that your plants can grow in an environment that is both controlled and optimized for their needs.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
