Montana Patent of the Month – June 2023

Car camping has become increasingly popular as more individuals are set on exploring and living nomadic lifestyles. Some systems are designed with tents above the surface of a vehicle, keeping the camper away from the cold and potentially wet ground. Unfortunately, these systems are often 10 times more expensive than a standard tent.

Go Fast Campers, outdoor enthusiasts, have designed an affordable and sturdy rooftop tent system. Their rooftop tent system is designed to provide campers with a comfortable and convenient camping experience while taking up minimal space on a vehicle’s rooftop. The design uses lightweight materials to reduce the impact on the vehicle and simplify setup.

A fabric hinge attaches the upper and lower portions of the tent. This flexible hinge allows the upper portion to be easily rotated between a closed position parallel to the lower portion and an open position that creates additional headroom and space inside the tent. The use of fabric material for the hinge enhances flexibility and ensures smooth operation.

The tent system features structural panels that provide stability and support. These removable panels are constructed using a honeycomb material made from polypropylene or other polymer or composite materials, offering a lightweight yet sturdy construction. To further enhance the functionality of the tent system, adjustable tension members are incorporated. These tension members, positioned between the upper and lower portions, provide additional support when the tent is fully open. They can be easily adjusted to different lengths, allowing campers to customize the tension and ensure a secure setup.

The fabric walls are seamlessly integrated with the fabric hinge, improving durability. Both front and side openings allow the user to adjust airflow and privacy.

Go Fast Campers’ rooftop tent system is also designed to be easily installed and secured to a vehicle’s roof or rack. It includes support members positioned below the lower portion to minimize deflection when supporting campers. These support members can be securely fastened using straps, buckles, or other fastening mechanisms, providing a stable and reliable setup. Go Fast Campers’ design ensures a comfortable and safe camping experience anywhere you can fit your car.
