Montana Patent of the Month – October 2022
Some people need hearing aids. Some need glasses. Those who need both know just how frustrating it can be when the arms of the glasses interfere with the hearing aid. Hearing aids that wrap around and sit behind the ear are particularly difficult to coordinate with glasses, easily being knocked off during movement. The minimal space around the ears is a surprising complexity in many patient’s lives.
HaggOPTix, LLC has designed an accessory that attaches to the temples of eyeglasses to allow for the combined use of hearing aids and glasses. This device prevents glasses from slipping down the nose while simultaneously holding behind-the-ear hearing aids in place.
The design slips neatly around any eyeglass temples, using spaced apertures and straps to create a reliable tension. The straps hold the temples in place and can be adapted to suit different sized temples. Hearing aids are usually positioned on the ridge of the ear. The accessory sits near this ame ridge. The side of the device allows for retention of the hearing aid by creating a lateral cover that acts as a roof over the hearing aid. This ensures the temples do not get tangled with the hearing aid.
The device also conveniently protects the user from getting a mask tangled with a hearing aid or glasses. The mask strings can sit on the other side of the accessory which now effectively separates the strings, temple, and hearing aid.
