Nebraska Patent of the Month – January 2022

DTN, LLC has spent years developing agricultural intelligence data and tools to support farmers and agribusinesses. Recently, they’ve developed a model to predict the below-ground performance (i.e. health and growth) of plants when exposed to bio-stimulants or pesticides.

This system allows you to better understand how a certain bio-stimulant, pesticide, or plant growth regulator may perform with your specific crop and field conditions. The model combines customized field modeling with machine learning techniques. The model can describe the below-surface soil state and predict the performance of the agricultural product of interest. The model characterizes the influence of environmental relationships on the performance of the product and then predicts which products would best suit which individual fields. The system assesses the impact of the biological processes in the field or soil system by correlating relationships between environmental variables. This then predicts a future below-ground performance of the bioproduct. The environmental variables include parameters such as soil moisture and temperature. The model offers multiple approaches for analyzing the agricultural product performance and provides insight needed for precision agriculture.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
