Nevada Patent of the Month – January 2022

We rely on gas monitoring systems to keep us safe in our day to day lives. We have carbon monoxide detectors in our homes. Soda-dispensing machines use carbon dioxide to carbonate their beverages and require a monitoring system to track any leaks. These systems are necessary because many gasses are colorless and odorless and would be virtually undetectable to a human until it’s too late. Most of these systems have both the sensor and alerting device in the same area in order to alert anyone who is nearby of the leak. This can be a problem as the user may have already been exposed to hazardous amounts of gas by the time they are close enough to the monitor to be alerted.

Eleven Eleven Technologies, LLC has developed a new gas monitoring system that uses a master monitor and sensor to better alert users. The sensor detects concentrations of a gas in some area and sends this data back to the master monitor. If the concentration passes safe levels, the monitor triggers an alarm both in the specific area with high concentrations, as well as all those surrounding areas. In this way, anyone who is in the area or within a certain radius can be quickly and effectively alerted of the threat. The alarm consists of both an audible and visible alert such as a horn blare and blinking LED light. The system is also set up to have three levels of alert ranging from a warning of slightly elevated gas levels to a warning of hazardous gas levels. This allows users to evacuate before a situation becomes dangerous and also provides time for those involved to contact an expert to fix the leak.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
