Nebraska Patent of the Month – November 2023

Dultmeier Sales LLC, recognized the need for a more efficient and reliable method of producing salt brine solutions for de-icing roadways. Their newly patented invention not only minimizes manual labor but also significantly improves the accuracy of the production process, providing a more effective means of clearing roadways during icy conditions.

The system employs a sophisticated arrangement of pipes, tees, valves, and sensors to precisely measure and regulate the salinity of salt brine solutions. The system continuously monitors the concentration of the solution using advanced mass flow sensors. These sensors meticulously calculate flow rates, density, and temperature, providing accurate real-time measurements of the solution’s salinity.

What sets this system apart is its ability to finely adjust the fresh water added to the brine solution, ensuring it stays incredibly close to a predetermined “target” salinity. Furthermore, this invention tackles contamination issues by automatically accounting for dirt contaminants through a specific “dirt correction factor.”

This innovation marks a leap forward in the field of highway maintenance, offering a more efficient, accurate, and automated process for producing and applying salt brine solutions to ensure safer road conditions during winter months. The potential impact of this invention could be far-reaching, enhancing safety on roadways, reducing accidents, and positively impacting public safety and transportation.
