Nevada Patent of the Month – December 2022

Bodygram, Inc. is an AI body sizing technology that allows you to take precise body measurements with only 2 photos on your smartphone. Their mission is to provide people with the information and tools they need to evolve their relationship with their bodies. This mission wouldn’t be achievable without Bodygram’s commitment to innovation. This commitment has recently led to a patent for their full body measurement tool.

The industry uses three general approaches to generate or extract body measurements from images of the user. The approaches range from the use of expensive 3D cameras to 2D-to-3D reconstruction softwares. Regardless of approach, these methods have been limited by the need for the user to stand in a specific pose at a specific distance from the camera, with an empty background and tight fitting clothes.

Bodygram’s method overcomes these limitations, allowing users to use any camera to take photos in any pose with any background. The picture can be taken from nearly any distance and while wearing any clothing without compromising the accuracy of the full body measurements.

Their system extracts body measurements from a set of 2D photos and uses deep-learning techniques to generate accurate body measurements regardless of what the user is wearing. The deep learning networks are applied to both a front-view and side-view photos. The network employs parameters such as weight, sex, age, height and more to generate the accurate measurements. The network grows overtime from an extensive database of annotated body measurements which means the system will only become more accurate over time.

Bodygram believes their technology could support a broad range of applications from size and fit recommendations in online clothing shopping to fitness and wellness tracking plans.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify).
