New Mexico Patent of the Month – December 2021
As the world moves towards renewable energy sources, the technology surrounding them must also advance. Unirac, Inc. is North America’s leading manufacturer of solar PV mounting systems, and a true expert in the field. They continually develop innovative solutions for the solar PV industry.
Recently, they have designed a height adjustable solar panel mount. There are existing height adjustable mounts in the industry, but these are often complex and inefficient. Unirac simplifies the design by using just a bracket and helical drive which engages with the upright mounting member. In this way, the mount can be fixed to a roof and the user can rotate the helical drive which then climbs up or down the vertical axis of the mount. The helical drive also does not require any fastener to hold it in place once the desired height is reached. This creates a much more simple design, reducing the amount of time required to secure the solar panel in place.
Solar panel height is often adjusted to maximize the sun exposure and ultimately the energy obtained. Easing the process only serves to make solar power more commercially viable.
Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
