North Carolina Patent of the Month – August 2022

Smell is a powerful sense across most species. For humans, it is the strongest and quickest memory inducer thanks to the olfactory bulbs proximity to regions of the brain focused on memory retention. With such a strong impact, ScentAir Technologies LLC has decided to utilize the sense to turn passive consumers into active customers.

Much of our shopping habits are psychologically driven. From the impact of advertising (both obvious and subconscious) to the aesthetic or environment of the store, our desire to buy or not buy is heavily influenced.

In order to support ScentAir’s olfactory driven marketing strategy, the company has designed and patented a scent nebulizer. Nebulizers create a very fine mist and differ from diffusers by the drop size they emit. The smaller drop size and the water-free process creates a more effective delivery with no chance of mold growth in the device – a concern seen in diffusers.

The company’s nebulizer uses an atomizer complex to atomize the liquid fragrance oil into a scented mist before expelling it into the air. A drainage tube is built into the system so that any non-atomized oil drains into a reservoir. When more oil is needed, a vacuum system pulls the fragrance oil from the reservoir into the atomizer.

ScentAir was founded on the principle of creating emotional relationships between customers and brands. With more than 20 years of experience and impact on the industry, the company has curated a scent marketing strategy sure to improve results. Their nebulizer is just one step in the process to curating this relationship and reaping the benefits.
