Ohio Patent of the Month – April 2022

While strength training is a fantastic workout, it inherently requires us to increase the difficulty as we get stronger. While we might start with bodyweight exercises, we eventually need to add some resistance to increase the difficulty. This resistance can be added using weights, resistance bands, or varying devices. While weights are an easy way to track your progress by understanding exactly how much you are lifting, not everybody has access to a good selection of equipment. Other systems, such as resistance bands, make it difficult to track, record, and analyze workout data. Ohio-based Rhino Boss, LLC has designed a portable, resistance workout device which offers these needs without the use of weights.

Their system includes a platform and a set of attachments including resistance bands with various length and stretch. The less stretch, the more resistance. The platform can fold in half for easy carrying and transport.

The platform is equipped with a force sensor which couples to the resistance bands. The sensor tracks the resistance and the pull or movement from the user. This means it can track the reps, rest time, and relative force required to complete each rep. This provides a great deal of insight into the workout, helping to track progress and identify areas that may need help. The data can be transferred to your phone or an associated app and used to guide future workouts.

The resistance bands can be attached to attachments including handholds, ankle straps, and bars. This lets the user accomplish nearly any workout, from bird dogs to squats.
