Oregon Patent of the Month – April 2021
With the rise of COVID-19, virtual connections became paramount. Removing face-to-face interactions brought virtual communications to the forefront, with people relying on popular social media for social connections, and remote access or video conferencing systems for professional connections. Sococo, Inc. wanted to contribute to the bridging of these physical and virtual connections.
With their system, Sococo wants to help you reconstruct these physical connections – whether you rebuild your classroom or create a visual office map – they want to recreate the personal proximity of the real world. Each user is connected to the system, with a profile built from their basic characteristics and geographic location. Each user is represented by an avatar which can be seen in the virtual office space. The users can interact with each other with simple commands. The interactions are monitored to keep the office space accurate, so that if two users are interacting, they will be in close proximity within the virtual office. The virtual office space is customizable to help organize the office, for instance, having the IT team in one “room” and marketing in another. Certain office rooms can be set up as meeting rooms, which automatically connect you to a video call when you enter. With chat and video options, Sococo brings office interaction into the virtual world.
