Tennessee Patent of the Month – September 2022

Gutterglove, Inc. had their beginnings back in 1996 when they were cleaning out thousands of feet of gutter. This hands-on experience quickly allowed them to identify a pain point – gutter guards. No guard functioned as they promised. With this realization, they began designing and testing alternatives – from better materials to better shapes. With a design in hand, they incorporated in 2000 and set out to bring gutter protection to everyone.

In another chapter of the business’s history, a patent has been awarded for their corrugated mesh gutter guard. The design uses fine mesh materials to overlay a gutter. Precise upper and lower edges ensure it can fit beneath shingles for secure placement.

This design specifically protects against the natural phenomenon of water tension. This unique quality of water causes water to bead up and prevents it from passing through mesh materials, choosing instead to stick together in a larger mass. With Gutterglove’s design, a corrugated filter effectively breaks this surface tension, reducing water to its individual droplets and allowing it to pass through. This functionality means water can keep on moving while the mesh blocks debris like leaves and sticks. The design is made durable by using stainless steel to create the micro-mesh. This prevents warping and corrosion for long lasting use.
