Wisconsin Patent of the Month – August 2021

Floor mats are stable household items, allowing a space to wipe your feet to remove dirt and dust, dirt, and debris. As the world has collectively become more aware of the need for increasing hygiene on all fronts. One method of creating more hygienic floor mats is the use of dust collecting floor mats with adhesive properties. The user steps on the adhesive mat, ultimately capturing the dust, and they can then move into a dust free environment. As the adhesive layer is saturated with dust, it is peeled off and the next stacked layer is used. Similar to a lint roller in floor mat form. It is overall costly and inefficient in high traffic areas. TakLogic, Inc. has designed an alternative solution that uses a thermoset reaction to decontaminate.

Their design for decontaminating floor mats use a thermoset visco elastomeric overlay. These decontaminating floor mats can be used for human or animal feet (hooves, paws, etc). The mats are made out of cleansable, antipathogenic, cohesive, and adhesive materials and offer true decontamination rather than just removal of dust. These materials inhibit microbial growth which protects all users from bacteria. Rather than being discarded when saturated, the floor mat can be washed and reset for constant use. This provides a deeper clean and hygiene as well as saving cost and reducing waste.
