Wisconsin Patent of the Month – December 2022

Ravin Crossbows, LLC are industry experts and disruptors. Their mission of disrupting the status quo and expanding the world of crossbow archery is not possible without continuous innovation and product designs. This dedication began when the company worked towards, and achieved, their Helicoil Technology, producing a truly efficient, compact, fast, and balanced crossbow with rifle-like accuracy. The innovation hasn’t stopped since.

Ravin Crossbows has been granted a patent for their projectile guide design which makes sure the arrow’s flight path is true. If an arrow is even slightly disrupted as it is propelled from the crossbow, the flight can be thrown off. Given the speed and distance it travels, any deviation will have the arrow land far from its target.

The design includes a projectile guide attached to the latch of a crossbow. Aligned with the projectile axis, the guide promotes alignment of the latch and projectile (e.g. arrow), preventing it from accidentally touching other parts of the crossbow and being knocked off course. The guide contacts the projectile along its fletching (i.e. vane) before the knock of the projectile is pushed fully into the nock aperture on the latch. It uses the fletching to ensure the projectile is aligned in a rotational axis, again preventing it from moving off course.
