Wisconsin Patent of the Month – November 2023

Watching a movie in the theatre is best enjoyed with a snack and a drink. Unfortunately, seeing the cup holder can be difficult in the dark setting, making the risk of a spilled drink too high. Similarly, finding the cup holder while driving at night faces the same dilemma. Raffel Systems LLC, innovators in the furniture industry, have patented a design for lighted cup holders that ensures you won’t miss and spill ever again.

The design includes LED lighting to illuminate the interior of a cupholder. The design can fit in any standard seating, from a car’s center console to a loveseat sofa. A control switch at the top end of the cup holder body operates both the illumination circuit and a power reclining mechanism for added functionality.

Raffel Systems combines practicality, technology, and safety, to bring innovative – and comfortable – solutions to the furniture industry. The company has built a name for themselves, focusing on meeting customer expectations by conducting a thoughtful and comprehensive R&D process.

Are you developing new technology for an existing application? Did you know your development work could be eligible for the R&D Tax Credit and you can receive up to 14% back on your expenses? Even if your development isn’t successful your work may still qualify for R&D credits (i.e. you don’t need to have a patent to qualify). To find out more, please contact a Swanson Reed R&D Specialist today or check out our free online eligibility test.
