Alabama Patent of the Month – July 2022

While many like to get on the lake to fish and relax, anglers need to be conscious of the local laws and regulations. These regulations are in place to protect both the fish themselves and the natural resources around. If an angler could fish freely at all times for any species or any quantity, fish populations would deplete rapidly and ecosystems would be disrupted. However, tracking these regulations can be a little hard to remember as some of them change seasonally or even monthly and may even vary by body of water. Fishing Chaos, Inc. has developed a system to support anglers, improving their ability to regulate themselves and to protect the fish populations.

Their system tracks fishing regulations across states, seasons, and bodies of water with ease. A GPS system ensures the presented regulations are relevant to your location and time. The user can also track their catches, uploading photos and stats like weight or geolocation. A Bluetooth scale can also be connected to the application so that the weight can be automatically uploaded, reducing the chance of user error.

This type of system brings some comfort to the angler, offering a convenient access to accurate regulations at a moment’s notice. It can also help researchers through a version of citizen science. More granular data into the actual catch rate and location of catches can better inform fishing regulations going forward.

Fishing Chaos are no strangers to the sport of fishing. They already have a platform that benefits tournament organizers and individual anglers alike. From managing memberships to tracking lure success rate, the company is set on making the pastime as enjoyable as possible.
